The site lies in the extraordinary vine-covered hills of Montalcino, in the heart of the Val d'Orcia.
The project renews and extends the farm centre to adapt it to the production, processing and sale of wine.
The key principle guiding the design was the protection of the landscape, achieved by reducing earthworks, preserving the existing vegetation and enhancing the dialogue between the built environment and nature.
The winery is set into the natural slope and follows the lie of the land, so that the structure is hidden beneath the garden roof that covers it, except for the entrance front, clad entirely in stone and – in the central part only – in Corten steel sheets, and marked by the openings leading to the interior.
Inside, the sequence of spaces follows the production process: from the arrival of the grapes, to the concrete and steel vats for vinification, to the barrique room for maturing and ageing the wine, the bottling area, the storage warehouse and the staff facilities, up to the tasting and direct sales area.
