The Palazzo al Bosco estate lies in the municipality of San Casciano in Val di Pesa, on top of a hill separating the valleys of the Pesa and Greve streams, overlooking the village of Chiesanuova.
The project involved the restoration of the Villa, the farmhouse and the guest house, as well as of the surrounding gardens and the existing swimming pool.
For the Villa, the work consisted of a careful restoration of the interiors with minimal building works: partial replacement of the floors, renovation of the bathrooms and some changes to the internal connections between rooms. A key aspect was the upgrade of the building services, replacing the old radiators with a fan coil system and adding underfloor heating in the main rooms. The large frescoed halls and bedrooms were studied in detail in order to restore the old decorations and remove recent additions of no historical value.
The former vat room, in the west wing of the Villa and connected to it by an internal passage through the cellar, now a tasting room, was renovated and turned into an art gallery on two levels linked by a ramp, to which an iron and glass lift was added. Here too the approach was to respect the existing architecture as much as possible, adding fan coil air conditioning, insulating the roof and replacing the windows with high energy-efficiency glazing.
The opposite wing of the Villa, which housed the lemon house, was transformed into a relaxation area, while on the upper floor a small guest apartment was recovered and renovated.
For the Farmhouse and the Guest house too, although these buildings are of lesser historical importance, the project aimed to consolidate some structural parts and upgrade the building services, leaving the façades and the internal layout unchanged.
Finally, the whole garden underwent a comprehensive redesign of its paved and green areas.
